Obituary—

Roy A. Sanders

Roy A. Sanders, son of Otho and Francis E. (Johnston) Sanders, was born April 29, 1896 in Poweshiek County and passed away September 6 in Mercy hospital in Iowa City. On August 22, 19?? Roy was united in marriage to Mildred Greenlie and to this union 4 daughters and one son were born. Roy farmed all of his life in the Barnes City and Montezuma area. He has been retired for the past several years.

May 1, 194? Roy was later married to Betha Hesler who survives. Mr. Sanders is also survived by daughters, Mrs. Letha (Opal) Thompson, Mrs. Vernon (Pauline) Pargen, both of Montezuma, Mrs. Elden (Glenna) Wiley and Mrs. Warren (Gale) Sanders, both of Oskaloosa and one son Wayne of Montezuma. The step children that survive are Mrs. Jack (Joan) Knowlser of Barnes City, Mrs. Ethel Wilson, Mrs Wayne (Wilma) Woodard, and Mrs. Leroy (Maxine) Jack. all of California, and Rodney L. Hesler of Davenport. Also surviving are 34 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Mrs. Harold Elliott of Montezuma and Mrs Eldon Hockey of Barnes City, and one brother Bob Sanders of Gibson.

Mr. Sanders was a member of the Montezuma Methodist church and Masonic Lodge No. 242.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Mildred in 1938 and 4 brothers.

Services were held Tuesday, Sept. 8 at the Harden Funeral Chapel, What Cheer, conducted
by the Rev. Warren James. Burial was in the Jackson township cemetery.

Casket bearers were Carl Speas, Harold Lester, Everett McClure, Rodney McCurdy, Jim McKain and Robert Ehret.
