IRENE ADKINS

Irene Adkins, 94, of Grinnell died of complications from a broken hip Tuesday, March 27, at the Mayflower Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with burial at Hazelwood Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, and the family will be present from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

She was born Nov. 11, 1906, in Grinnell to Charles and Myrtle Woods Hedges. She was raised in Grinnell and was a 1924 graduate of Grinnell High School. Following her education, she worked as a stenographer for the Clindinin Insurance Co. in Grinnell.

She was married to Avery T. Adkins Aug. 27, 1930, in Grinnell. They lived in Grinnell and operated the *Fifth Avenue Shop until Mr. Adkins' death in 1967. For several years, Mrs. Adkins worked in the admissions department of Grinnell General Hospital. She retired in 1979.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and the Rebekah Lodge.

Surviving is one son, Dave, of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and one brother, Floyd Hedges.
