C. HEDGES, 85, SUCCUMBS TUESDAY

Charles Milton Hedges, 85, Grinnell, died Tuesday noon at a local hospital. He had been in ill health since last November.

Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Smith Funeral Home with the Dr. G.S. Bruland, pastor of the Methodist church, officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Odd Fellows rites were conducted by members of the local lodge, led by Thomas Godfrey, Noble Grand, and Harry Bitcon, chaplain. Serving as pallbearers were Harry Bitcon, Ellis Brown, Virgil Doud, W.C. French, Thomas Godfrey, and Earl Kennedy.

Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

He was the son of Isaiah and Alice Shockley Hedges and was born in Montezuma on Dec. 24th, 1875. He received his education in the Poweshiek county schools and later was married to Myrtle Woods.

To this union were born two children: Floyd Hedges of Hannibal, Mo., and Mrs. Avery (Irene) Adkins of Grinnell. Also surviving are three grandsons.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Myrtle in 1936, and all of his brothers and sisters.

Mr. Hedges had lived in Grinnell for the last 60 years and had worked as a grocery clerk. He had made his home with his daughter in 1332 Main Street.

He was a member of the Methodist church and was a 50-year member of the Odd Fellows Lodge in Grinnell.
