DWAIN SUMPTER RITES TUESDAY

Dwain P. Sumpter, 70, of 715 Washington Ave., died Saturday, Sept. 14, at Grinnll General Hospital shortly after admission.

The son of Eli and Armada Belle Sumpter, he was born Feb. 7, 1904, at Mendota, Mo. He received his education in the Exline, Iowa, public schools and came to Grinnell in the early 1930s where he worked at the shoe factory. He retired from Midwest Metal Stamping Co. of Kellogg in 1969. Mr. Sumpter was a member of the Iowa National Guard. He was baptized in the Christian Church at Exline. On June 7, 1940, he was married to Helen Hunsaker at Newton.

Mr. Sumpter is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Mrs. Phil (Judy) Wertz of Grinnell, Mrs. Donna Nevitt of Grinnell, and Mrs. Laverne (Victoria) Tish of Brooklyn; three sons, Ron, who is a student at Morningside College in Sioux City, Clyde of Grinnell and Don of Montezuma; 17 grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Lerma Cline of Exline, Mrs. Harry Ramsey of Davenport and Mrs. Ellen Cowan of Cincinnati, Iowa; three half sisters, Mrs. Pete Bess of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Carmen Molett of Moline, and Mrs. Edith Wages of Cincinnati; and two brothers, Eli Sumpter of Newton and Pearly Sumpter of Exline.

Funeral services for Mr. Sumpter will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Winford Clifton, pastor of the First Friends Church, officiating.

Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
