MEMORIAL SERVICES HERE SATURDAY FOR IRVING S. LEMLEY

Irving S. Lemley, age 66, of El Paso, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 10, 1964, at Rochester, Minn., after failing health the last few months. He was a former resident of Grinnell for 50 years before retiring and making his home the last three years in El Paso.

He was the son of Dr. L.G. Lemley and the former Maud Stalker, and was born in Richland, Iowa, on November 13, 1897. His family lived in Richland and Blooming Prairie, Minn., before moving to Grinnell. He attended Grinnell College and enlisted in the Army in World War I, serving with the S.A.T.C. unit at the college. He also attended Iowa State University at Ames, where he was affiliated with the Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity, as well as, Colorado School of Mines at Golden, Colorado.

On August 31, 1924, he was united in marriage with L. Gwen Edwards at Grinnell, who survives him. Mr. Lemley was employed in Grinnell with the Iowa Southern Utilities office for 38 years. He was a member of the Congregational church. Upon his retirement, Mr. and Mrs. Lemley moved to El Paso, Texas, and were members of the Unitarian church.

He is survived by his wife, Gwen; his sister, Mrs. Dwight (Margaret) Brooke of Des Moines; 2 nieces and a nephew, Mrs. Alfred T. (Betty) Ashby of Newton, Iowa; Mrs. Robert D. (Elizabeth) Johnston of Peoria, Illinois; and Philip L. Brooke of Webster Groves, Missouri. He is also survived by his mother's cousins, Mrs. John Renaud and Miss Olivia Johnson, both of Grinnell, as well as his cousins, Mrs. Jeanette Lemley Mick of Riverside, California; Lawrence A. Lemley of Naches, Washington; and Mrs. Lewis (Mary Lemley) Duke of Richland, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1958 and his mother in 1961.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. CDT, Saturday, May 23, at the Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Dewey, minister of the Congregational church officiating. Organist will be Norman Goodbrod. Those desiring may contribute to the American Cancer Society, 614 E. Yandell Street, El Paso, Texas.
