AN OBITUARY OF REBECKA SHARER

Rebecka Ann Sharer, was born in Westchester, Harrison county, Ohio, June 9, 1834, and departed this life at her home in Ewart, Iowa, March 27, 1929, at the age of 94 years. She came to the state of Iowa in the early settling up of the state, and like all others of that sturdy generation of people, endured many hardships as a pioneer. She spent the greater part of her life on a farm.

On Septemaber 4, 1852, she was united in marriage to Frederick Kline, in Middleton, Penn. To this union were born nine children, six of whom survive her, Ora of Ewart, Celesta Cheshire, of Montezuma, J.V. Kline, of Lynnville, Anna Crosman of Byers, Colo., Fred of Grinnell and Grace Stanford of Montezuma. In 1875, the husband met with an accident which resulted in his death, leaving her with a large family of children to make her way as best she could. This she succeeded in doing by the help of the older children. Needless to say what it meant for a mother to be left in that day with a family of children, to fight the battles of life alone. This she did and came out victorious. She loved her home, and a friendly welcome was shown to all, both old and young, who called at her home. She took a vital interest in the questions of the day, and so remarkably did she maintain her faculties that she never grew old, save in years. At her advanced age, she could carry on an intelligent conversation with those about her, and recall many things of interest that had happened in the long, long ago.

She gave her heart to the Lord back in her girl life, and from that day until the hour when her Heavenly Father called her home, she never wavered in that promise, "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee," and in the language of Job, her testimony was, "I know in whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him against that day."

She was again united in marriage to Samuel Sharer, of Ewart. To this union no children were born. She leaves to mourn her loss, the six children mentioned above, and a number of grandchildren, many friends and near relatives.

Funeral services were held from the Blue Point M.E. church, Friday, March 29, at eleven o'clock. The service was in charge of the Rev. E.M. Gregson of Eldon, assisted by the Rev. VanDyke of Ewart.
