MRS. SARAH GADDIS BEATTY.

Mrs. Sarah Gaddis Beatty was born in Morrow county, central Ohio, on July 23, 1857, and passed on to the better land at the home of her niece, Mrs. H.H. McCulloch, on Wednesday, January 18, 1922, at the age of sixty-four and a half years.

She was united in marriage to Adam Lorenzo Beatty on Aug. 31, in 1879, and to this union were born two daughters and two sons, as follows: Nora A., the first born, died in infancy at the age of one and one-half years, Miss Bessie Fern Beatty, whom we all learned to love so well, died at her home in Newburg, Iowa, on May 8, 1908, at the day prior to her 22nd birthday. The two sons, Frank Lester, and Fred Oraville Beatty, were born at Hickory Grove on May 5th, in 1882 and as the most of us will recall Frank was called home in November, 1918. Mr. Fred Oraville Beatty, of Flagler, Colo., is the only surviving child of Mrs. Beatty. Her sister, Mrs. Edward Sheppy, preceded her to the better land. She leaves surviving her one sister who lives in Kansas, a half-brother in Ohio and two half-sisters in Washington.

Mrs. Beatty and "Renz," as we older people all knew him, lived and reared their family among us, always doing their full share and more in every worthy enterprise. And there never was a more worthy and helpful family in our midst. Modest, steady and reliable, they were always glad to lend a helping hand in every time and case of need during all the twenty-one years in which we had the pleasure of counting them among our choicest friends.

After the death of the husband and father in 1901 Mrs. Beatty removed to Newburg, Iowa, where she with her daughter, Bessie, gave about seven years of faithful and efficient service to the community as operators of the telephone exchange. Since the daughter's death, a large share of Mrs. Beatty's time and strength have been given to the care and comfort of Mrs. Sheppy, her invalid sister. We all, relatives and friends, join in tender memories of one who "hath done what she could" faithfully and well and is gone to the Christian reward.

Funeral services were held from the Congregational church at Newburg at 2:00 o'clock this afternoon. Burial in Hickory Grove cemetery.
