IRENE MEREDITH

Irene Meredith, 77, of 902 Prince St., Grinnell, died Monday, Oct. 21, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Organist was Sue Martindale, and vocalist was David Edwards.

Pallbearers were Mike, Kevin and Jeff Arment; Scott, Jason and Joel Meredith; Shane Mitchell and John Neeley. Honorary bearers were Cory, Travis and Trent Arment; Shawn, Troy and Zachary Latcham; Adam Schmidt and Cole Tokle.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The daughter of Jess and Eva Marion Walker, she was born Dec. 19, 1913, in Barnes City. She attended rural school in Jasper County.

She was married to Leland L. Meredith Sept. 8, 1933, in Montezuma. They farmed in Jasper County and Mrs. Meredith worked as a seamtress at DeLong Sportswear. The couple lived in Grinnell since 1966. Mrs. Meredith was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church.

She is survived by two sons, Lyle and LeRoy, both of Grinnell; four daughters, Donna Arment of Searsboro and Judy Mitchell, Betty Stepp and Yody Neeley, all of Grinnell; one sister, Phyllis Arthur of Grinnell; 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Deloris Meredith; a son, Jerry; and three sisters and one brother.
