KAREN L. STEVENS

Karen L. Stevens, 68, of Grinnell and formerly of Newton died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A funeral service for Karen Stevens will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with Rev. William Reynolds of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Grinnell officiating. Casket bearers will include Dwight Dufoe, Mike Ellis, John Guthrie, Addison Jensen, Mike Jones and Terry Montgomery. Interment will be at Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home starting at noon Tuesday; the family will be present at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m.

Born June 29, 1938, in Vinton, she was the daughter of Clyde and Roxie Hall O'Hara. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from GHS with the class of 1956.

She married Charles Stevens and the couple lived in Newton, where she was a homemaker and also worked as a waitress in area restaurants. She also worked at Newton Manufacturing Co. She moved to Grinnell in 1978.

She enjoyed cooking, solving puzzles and watching old movies.

She is survived by three sons, Chuck Stevens of Newton, Jeffrey Stevens of Grinnell and Gregory Stevens of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; and a sister, Colleen Keenan. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Richard and Thomas O'Hara.

Memorials may be directed to either St. Francis Manor or to Grinnell Regional Hospice.
