Tish Buried at West Liberty Cemetery

Funeral services for Walter H. Tish of Ames were held March 17 from the Duckworth-Stevens Funeral Home in Ames with the Rev. Milton Dowden, pastor of the Campus Baptist Church officiating.

The organist, Mrs. Les Jensen, played two favorite hymns of Walter’s “The Old Rugged Cross” and “The Little Brown Church In The Vale.”

Casketbearers were Ray Cook Jr., George Upton, William Sills, Bob Wood, Willis Snook and E. J. Moore.

Burial was in the family plot in the West Liberty cemetery near Montezuma.

Obituary

Walter H. Tish of 1424 Summit Ave., Ames, died March 14, 1958 of injuries sustained in an accident at the Cook Stone Quarry.

He was born September 7, 1906 near Montezuma, one of eight children of Mr. and Mrs. William Preston Tish.

In 1930 he was united in marriage to Mary E. Milligan. To this union two children were born, a son, William and a daughter, Betty.

Walter and his family moved to Ames in 1941 and the last 12 years he has been with Cook’s Quarry as powder man.

Walter was in the National Guard prior to World War II and also served in the Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; a son, William of Grinnell; a daughter Betty of Ames and three grandchildren. Also two brothers, Harry of Swea City, Iowa and Tracey of California; five sisters, Mrs. Alice Wolfe of International Falls, Minn., Mrs. Winnie Smith of Chicago, Ill., Mrs. Mabel Wolfe of Fremont, Iowa, Mrs. Doris Wilsterman of Grinnell, Iowa and Mrs. Nellie Thompson of Portland, Oregon; other relatives and friends.
