ELIZABETH BAILEY SERVICES HELD

Elizabeth Bailey, 88, of St. Francis Manor died Wednesday evening, Oct. 15, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Smith Funeral Home, with Ray Standerwick, pastor of the Oak Grove Friends Church, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and vocalist was Bruce E. Bailey. Pallbearers were Bernard, Don, Gene, Howard, Kenneth and Larry Criswell. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

The daughter of William Henry and Martha Jane Marcum Criswell, she was born near Monticello, Ky., on April 23, 1898. She attended schools there, coming to Grinnell at the age of 17.

On March 17, 1921, she was married to Alna Z. Bailey at Newton. They farmed in the Bethel community southwest of Grinnell, moving to the Oak Grove community in 1929 where Mrs. Bailey continued to live for 55 years.

She attended the Oak Grove Friends Church and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She formerly worked as a housekeeper at Grinnell College and for the Ahrens Seed Corn Co.

She is survived by one son, Ralph of Frankfort Ind.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruby Tuggle of Monticello, Ky.; and three brothers, Ted, Obie and Elmer Criswell, all of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1969; her parents; one sister, Laura E. Tuggle; and six brothers, John A. "Bud," William A., Shell, James H., Henry W. and Joseph C. Criswell.
