William “Bill” Slagle, 53
William “Bill” Slagle, 53, of Brooklyn, died in his home Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1996.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 6 in the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. Rev. William Daylong officiated and the organist was Angie Hawkins. Casket-bearers were David Dolmage, Tom Ahrens, Bill Nagle, Jim Calderwood, Larry Manning and Roger Van Ersvelde. Burial was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.
William Glenn Slagle, son of Glenn Harold Slagle and Fern Ione Thompson Slagle, was born August 18, 1943, in Montezuma.
Bill received his education at Brooklyn graduating from high school in 1961. He then attended the University of Iowa at Iowa City. Bill served with the Army National Guard from April 9, 1964 to April 8, 1970.
Bill worked in food management and was a salesman for a number of years. Since 1989, Bill has been the manager of Elks BPO Lodge #1266 of Grinnell and has been a resident of Brooklyn for the past 13 years.
He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Brooklyn and a member of American Restaurant Association, certified as a food management professional.
Bill is survived by his daughter, Kimberly and her husband, Clinton Morris of Durant, Oklahoma; his son Scott of Des Moines; his parents, Glenn and Fern Slagle of Brooklyn; one brother and his wife, Robert and Patricia Slagle of Malcom; and two sisters and their husbands, Theda and Robert May of Malcom and Linda and Roger Walz of Tama.
