DR. E.J. RINGENA, BROOKLYN DOCTOR 46 YEARS, DIES

A physician at Brooklyn for more than 46 years, Dr. E.J. Ringena, 81, succumbed to a heart ailment Tuesday morning at a Grinnell hospital where he had been a patient since last Friday.

Funeral services were held today (Thursday) at the Grace Methodist church in Brooklyn. Interment was in the IOOF cemetery.

Dr. Ringena first started his practice in Brooklyn in 1913 and had been in practice continuously since that time. Prior to establishing his practice in Brooklyn, Dr. Ringena had served the Deep River area for about three years.

He was a 1908 graduate of the State University of Iowa medical school and served on the faculty there for one year following graduation before entering private practice.

The Brooklyn pioneer physician was widely known in medical circles and was honored in 1951 when his biography appeared in that year's edition of "Who's Important In Medicine."

In addition to serving the community as a doctor, he also took an active role in many other civic affairs. For many years he served on the board of education in the Brooklyn school system.

He had given up his full-time practice a few years ago but still maintained an office in his home up until the time of his death.

Dr. Ringena is survived by three children: Mrs. E.L. Montgomery of Brooklyn, Mrs. Karl Ketelsen of Iowa City, and Delbert Ringena of Dallas, Texas. His wife preceded him in death a little over two years ago.
