WILLIAM F. MANLY

William F. (Bill) Manly, 75, of Grinnell died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008, at Friendship Manor.

A private burial service will be held at Hazelwood cemetery on Friday, Oct. 3. Memorials may be made to the Grinnell High School Athletic Department.

He was born on June 25, 1933, in Grinnell, the son of Charles M. and Nell Cooper Manly. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1951. He attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas and later graduated from the University of Iowa College of Law. He practiced law in Phoenix, Ariz., and later was involved with a land development company in Texas. After his health failed, he returned to Grinnell in the 1990s.

He was an avid reader and member of the Republican party.

He is survived by one brother, C.M. Manly II of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son Carter Manly; one daughter, Jennifer Manly; one sister, Mary Bea Letts, and two brothers, John C. Manly and Robert C. Manly.
