MRS. LAWRENCE LIDTKA PASSES

--------------------

Highly Esteemed Resident of Malcom Passed Away Last Tuesday.

--------------------

MOURNED BY WIDE CIRCLE OF FRIENDS AND RELATIVES

--------------------

Impressive Funeral Services Were Held Thursday From Trinity Lutheran Church.

--------------------

Friederickie Schultz was born Aug. 1, 1852, in Apomin, Germany. She was the third child of Joseph and Christeen Schultz.

At the age of two years, she, with her parents and brother and sister, came to America. The family settled in Princeton, Ill.

Ten years later the Schultz family emigrated from Princeton to Poweshiek County, Iowa, in a wagon, as pioneers did in those days. Friederickie, who was then twelve years old, assumed no small responsibility in this trying adventure, driving a team one hundred miles across the prairie. Crossing the Mississippi on a ferry boat was in particular a great worry to her as she was afraid of water.

On Aug. 4, 1878, the deceased was united in marriage with Lawrence Lidtka. To this union five children were born, Lena Mithelman, Mary Deedrick, Fred, Joe, and Louis, the last named departing this life almost three years ago.

Mrs. Lidtka spent thirty one years of her wedded life on the farm, three years on a farm south of Malcom, and twenty eight years on the farm where their son Fred now resides, from which place she accompanied her husband to Malcom, where she resided until July 14th when she was taken to the hospital for an operation.

During her brief illness she was a patient sufferer, was always cheerful and never complained, and was very considerate of her family. Apparently she was getting along fine, but on July 24th at about 6:30 she suffered a heart attack which caused her sudden death. She attained the age of 75 years, 11 mo. and 15 days.

Besides her husband and the four children who mourn her loss, there are eight grandchildren, Elsie Young of Grinnell, Truman and Iona Deedrick, Earl, Eldon and Nola Lidtka, Leroy and Claire Mithelman, and one great grandchild, Marvel Young; also a brother and sister, Fred Schultz and Minnie Puls, the others Lena, Charlie and Jake preceding her in death.

Mrs. Lidtka was a devout Christian. Having been baptized in infancy, she was confirmed in her youth in the old Trinity Lutheran Church, built about sixty years ago. Of this Church she remained an earnest, consistent member until her departure. Mrs. Lidtka and her sister Mrs. Puls were the only charter members of the Ladies' Aid organized about 30 years ago. Her husband and sister are now the only members left who joined the church when it was first organized.

Our deceased sister was always glad for a visit from her pastor, who came often to console her and her feeble husband. And herein, in her deep religious convictions, lies the explanation of her cheerful, patience that was so manifest not only at the time of her illness, but also in the tender care of her husband who has long been ailing.

She was a good mother and neighbor, and loved by a large circle of relatives and friends who will miss her greatly because of her cheerful manner.

"The precious seeds of weeping,
Today we sow once more;
The form of one now sleeping,
Whose pilgrimage is o'er.
Ah, death but safely lands her
Where we too would attain;
Our Father's voice demands her,
And death to her is gain."

Interment was made in the Trinity Lutheran cemetery on the afternoon of July 26th. The church lacked much in seating the vast host of relatives and friends attending the last rites which were conducted by Pastor Geo. F. Dirks, and the flower offering was especially large and beautiful. Mr. W.F. Vogel and Mrs. Scott of Malcom rendered fitting selections for the occasion: "Jesus Lover of My Soul," "Some Day The Silver Cord Will Break," and "Sweet By And By." The bearers were Fred Puls, Theo. Schultz, Herman Mithelman, Fred Baustian, Bert Lamb, and John Lidtka.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Louis Schultz, Reasnor, Ia., Mr. and Mrs. John Schultz of Marshalltown and Mr. and Mrs. Percy Wendt of Green Mountain, Joe Marvin and family of Coggan, Mr. and Mrs. Will Lidtka of New Sharon, Mrs. Herman Jantzen, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Jantzen of Marshalltown, Mrs. Lydia Tschopp and two sons of Marshalltown.

CARD OF THANKS.

We express our sincere appreciation and thanks for the many kind acts of our neighors and friends during our late bereavement. We are also grateful for the words of sympathy, the many beautiful floral offerings, and the singing by Mr. Vogel and Mrs. Scott of Malcom.
