MRS. MINNIE PULS CALLED BY DEATH

On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 20, after a lingering illness of about a year, Mrs. Minnie Puls, widely known and beloved resident of Malcom, passed to her eternal reward.

Wilhilmina Schultz, daughter of J.J. Schultz, was born at Princeton, Bureau County, Illinois, on April 22, 1855. She was the fourth child in a family of six.

Wilhelmina came with her parents to Malcom township when she was nine years old, and in this vicinity she grew to womanhood. On Mar. 4, 1876 she was united in holy wedlock to Louis Puls, a farmer by occupation. The young couple took residence on a farm northwest of Malcom where together they labored though good and evil days for thirty-seven years, after which time they retired at Malcom. In their fourteenth year of residence at Malcom, Mr. Puls was summoned from this life, but the widowhood of our now departed sister was brightened by the helping and cheering presence of her daughter, Marie, who, being employed in a general merchandise store made her home with her mother and gave her such care as she needed. Ten children were born to this union, of whom eight survive the mother, Fred Puls, Grinnell, Josephine Mithelman, John Puls, Malcom, Ida Ferguson, Grinnell, Marie Fogel, Ted and Elmer Puls, and Evelyn Gross, Malcom. One son passed away in infancy and Louis Jr. at seventeen years of age.

The deceased was baptized in infancy in the Lutheran faith, in which faith, also, she was confirmed when she grew to maidenhood. Of the sincerity of her Christian convictions her walk of life bears ample testimony. She was a devoted mother and in the bringing up of her children, she was deeply concerned, not only in their bodily, but spiritual welfare as well. She set her children the good example of being a faithful attendant at divine services when health permitted. That God's grace was acting in her becomes evident through the self-sacrificing patience which she possessed. She was the last charter member of Trinity's Ladies' Aid.

Though failing in health for some months, several weeks ago the condition of the departed became critical, and since then her daughter, Marie, devoted all her time to her care. Loving hands did all that was in their power, but when last Saturday, in addition to other serious complications, pneumonia set in, hopes for her recovery waned. Comforted by the Word of God, her greatest source of consolation in life, and cheered by the help and presence of her children, she fell asleep in the Lord, having attained the age of seventy-three years, five months, and twenty-eight days.

Besides her eight children, she leaves to mourn her loss, a brother, Fred Schulz, Malcom, twenty-one grandchildren, and many relatives and friends.

A large number attended the last rites conducted from the Trinity Lutheran Church of Malcom at two o'clock Wednesday afternoon with Pastor Geo. F. Dirks in charge. Especially beautiful was the profusion of floral offerings. The bearers were the sons and sons in law, Fred, John, Elmer and Ted Puls, and Harlan Gross and O. Ferguson.

The relatives attending from a distance were: Mrs. Ida Clausen, LaSalle, Ill.; Mrs. John Schopp, Walnut, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Janssen, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Janssen and Mrs. Lydia Tschopp, Marshalltown.
