MARY L. MCDONALD, 70

Mary L. McDoanld, age 70, of Brooklyn, died Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at her home following a lengthy illness. Mass of Christian burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 10, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, with Fr. Brian Shepley officiating. A memorial fund has been established.

Mary is survived by her husband, Fredrick; her children, Mary Klein (Alan) of Brooklyn, Michael F. McDonald (DeeDee) of Malcom, Phyllis Morris (Terry) of Malcom, LeeAnn Deppe (Shannon) of Grinnell, and Eric "Moose" McDonald of Brooklyn; nine grandchildren, Carrie Steinmetz (Matt) of Victor, Jennifer Boyer (Matt) of Pasco, Wash., Michael R. McDonald (Kandi) of Deep River, Matthew McDonald of Iowa City, Samantha McDonald of Malcom, Justin Morris of Malcom, Stephanie Morris of Oskaloosa, Robert McDonald of Malcom, and Jason Gire (Heather) of Cedar Rapids; six great-grandchildren, John Steinmetz, Brian Steinmetz, Kymber Boyer, Kamden Boyer, Ava Morris and Kolton Gire. Also surviving are five brothers, Leo Bazyn (Judy) of Tennessee, John Bazyn (Colleen) of Montezuma, David Bazyn of Cedar Rapids, Paul Bazyn (Kathy) of Elkader, and Jim Bazyn (Robin) of Montezuma; four sisters, Jean Wheeler of Sigourney, Dixie Willett (Carl Marsh) of Robins, Betty Vance of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Ann Morrow (K.C. Hilsabeck) of Blairstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, JoEllen and LuAnn McDonald in infancy; and her parents-in-law, Vernon and Frances McDonald.

Mary Louise Bazyn was born June 6, 1939, in Brooklyn, the daughter of Rene and Marie DeCoster Bazyn. She graduated from BGM in 1957, and married Fredrick McDonald on Oct. 4, 1957, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Mary enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, her houseplants, fishing, camping and mushroom hunting. She also enjoyed reading, bowling and playing Yahtzee. She spent many hours baking and cooking. Mary especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn.
