JOHN BOYLE IS MOURNED
--------------------

Respected Resident of Washington Township Reaches End of Life's Journey.

--------------------

FUNERAL SERVICES WERE HELD MONDAY AFTERNOON.

--------------------

Mr. Boyle Came to County in 1874--Charter Member of Oak Grove Church.

--------------------

John Boyle was born in County Antrim, Ireland, August 28, 1842, and departed this life at his home on the farm near Grinnell, April 5, 1928.

His early life was spent in the land of his birth. In 1861 he came to America, locating at New Haven, Conn. In 1862 he came to Cedar County, Ia. In 1863 by ox team he drove through to Western Montana near Helena, living there for about 10 years. Then after a short visit in the home of his birth, he returned to Iowa, and bought the farm in Washington Township, Poweshiek County in 1874, moving to it in that year. Here he has since resided with the exception of a few years spent in Lynnville.

August 16, 1877, he was united in marriage to Ximena Cadwallader, who preceded him to the other world on January 3, 1909. To this union were born 5 children, Mrs. Amy Jones of Carrington, N.D., Charles E. of Seattle, Wash., J. Leslie of Watertown, S.D., William C., on the home farm near Grinnell, Arthur Alvin, who died in childhood, at the age of 7 years, also Mrs. Jennie Brown of Searsboro, whom they took into their home and hearts as a daughter when young.

In later years he married Mrs. Emma White of Lynnville, who also passed to the other world March 16, 1922.

Mr. Boyle was a member of the Friends Church in Oak Grove, from the time of its organization, and served in the capacity of an elder for a number of years.

The service was held at Oak Grove Church Monday, conducted by Rev. Charles O. Whitely of Oskaloosa and Rev. Robert Lincoln. The latter has been associated with the deceased in Christian work for nearly fifty years and can freely say that John Boyle was a true Christian, very patient and appreciative in his lingering sickness.

The body was tenderly laid away in Sugar Creek cemetery. Pallbearers were Bert Whitaker, Alex Lincoln, John Lincoln, Fred McDowell, Croft Pilgrim and Robert McDonald. Music was furnished by Mrs. Dempster and Mrs. McCuniff.

Friends from a distance were: Mrs. Ernst Dicks from Marshalltown, and Laird Jones, a grandson, from Donaldson, Ia. and the daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Jones from Carrington, North Dakota.

A Friend our little church has lost
Whose place can ne'er be filled.
For he has had a major part
In things worth while to build.

Our meeting place in the long ago
Was the school house o'er the way,
Where we met the ones who did us
good
And helped us through the day.

The Lord has given blessings rare
As we come, or go, or send.
But not a treasure here is found
The equal to a Friend.

Sleep on thou weary one
Thy peace shall never end.
Nor shall thee early be forgot,
For thou hast been a Friend.

There is beauty in the sleep of
death
When the leaves of autumn blend.
And the soul goes out to be with
God
Farewell, farewell, Our Friend.
By R.L.
