TOM L. MINTLE PASSES AWAY

Active Young Elk Dies of Flu and Pneumonia.

Many Grinnell friends regret the death yesterday afternoon at 4:15 of Tom Mintle who died of pneumonia after about ten days' illness. Mr. Mintle had been in poor health nearly a year, and so was in too weak a condition to combat the attack of pneumonia. His mother and sister came from Des Moines and every possible help was given him but without avail.

Tom Mintle was the second son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mintle, the second of five children. He was born in Sheridan township, August 5, 1894. About 11 years ago the family moved to Grinnell and Tom attended the grades and high school here, and early went to farming. December 9, 1915, he was united in marriage with Miss Lena Colvin at Langdon, N.D., whom he had met while she was on a visit to Grinnell. One son, Melvin Ernest, now past two, was born to this union and with the mother survives him.

After marriage the couple came to Grinnell where they engaged in farming northeast of town until about a year ago when they moved to Grinnell. Since then he has been employed at the Spaulding plant.

Besides his wife and son there survive him his mother and sister now of Des Moines, his brother, Harley, now farming in Sheridan township, and two brothers in the army, Earl who has just returned from France and is at Camp Stuart, Va., and Loring who is still in France.

The Mintle family is one of the old and respected families of this community and many other relatives also live near here. Tom was a quiet, modest young man, well liked, of good character and leaves many friends to join the family in mourning his loss.

The funeral will occur tomorrow morning at 10:30 o'clock, in charge of the Elks Lodge of which he was a member.
