RALPH REAMS

Ralph Reams, 92, of Grinnell died after a lengthy illness Sunday, Nov.9, 2003, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Eldon Pals, pastor of the Ewart Presbyterian Church, officiating. Casket bearers were his grandchildren, Paula Corbin, Phil Reams, Julie Theis, Kathleen McCunn, Matt Reams, Melissa Hultman, Mark Reams, Terri Lauters, and Amy Taylor. He was born May 31, 1911, on the family farm in Sheridan Township, Poweshiek county, and was raised in rural Poweshiek County, attending rural school near his home. He was a member of the Class of 1928 at Malcom High School. On June 3, 1933, he was married to Clara Lovella Beeler in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed near Malcom and in 1945 moved to a farm west of Ewart. He retired from farming in 1967 when the couple moved to Grinnell. He worked as a carpenter and later assisted his son Ronald Reams with Reams Ag Business.

He was a member of the Ewart Presbyterian Church and the Malcom IOOF Lodge. He served as a trustee in Pleasant Township and was a former 4-H leader in Poweshiek County.

He is survived by three sons, Ronald Reams, Montezuma, William Reams, Vinton, and Larry Reams, Montezuma; nine grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Wayne Reams, and three sisters, Florence Johnston, Beulah Liek and Lucille Scott.
