FRED STANLEY HOWARD

Fred Stanley Howard was born in London, England, April 26, 1853, and came to this country in 1873. His death came on October 18, 1922 after he had lived 69 years, 5 months, 22 days. In 1876 he was married to Elizabeth Goldsmith. To this union were born three sons and one daughter, Stanley F. Howard, a representative of the American Express Co. at Pekin, China, Wm. H. Howard of Douglas, Wyo., Alfred Howard and Mrs. Millie Langdon of Des Moines. All the children are living but the mother died in 1889. In 1893 Mr. Howard was married again to Mrs. Hannah Wilshaw, who remains to mourn his departure.

Mr. Howard has lived in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he was first married, in Des Moines, Iowa, in West Plains, Mo., and for the last three years in Grinnell, where his death occurred. Sixteen years ago he was converted and united with the West Plains Baptist church. Two years later he was ordained a deacon in the same church, and he held that same office in the local Baptist church when he died.

In addition to his wife and children he is survived by 4 grandchildren and by one sister yet living in the old country.

Many friends of former years join in deepest sympathy with the sorrowing family and relatives in this their hour of sorrow.

He was a faithful member of the Loyal Sons Bible Class of the Baptist Church and served as Assistant teacher. A sincere Christian man who will be missed in the church and community.

The funeral was held at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon from the Baptist church, Rev. C.A. Carman officiating. Interment will be in Des Moines, Saturday morning from the Dunn Funeral home. The Loyal Sons Bible class attended the funeral in a body. Pallbearers were the deacons of the church, C.F. Ricker, S.E. Raffety, Will Scandrett, Ellis Kinan, Ed Bohstedt and Prof. Franklin Johnson.
