The Grinnell (IA) Herald; Sept. 13, 1892

--One by one the older residents pass away, the last to go being William Buck who died at his residence in East Grinnell, Sunday morning about six o'clock. For over a year and a half Mr. Buck had been in enfeebled health, having never recovered from an attack of la grippe in April, 1891. Probably the last public gathering he was able to attend was the funeral of Mr. Grinnell. Mr. Buck was a native of Ohio, born Nov. 18, 1811. He was brought up to the trade of a mason, afterwards abandoning it for the farm. In 1841, he was united in marriage with the lady who preceded him to the tomb three and one half years ago. In 1865, with his famiy he removed to this county, occupying a farm in Scott township. In 1875 he removed to Grinnell and has since lived in the First ward. His home was destroyed by the cyclone of 1882, in which he suffered some injury. Since his removal to Grinnell he had made many friends by his quiet, unostentious manners and pure and upright life. He was a member of the Congregational church, and in good health was a regular attendant upon Sunday service. He served well his generation and has gone to his reward. A large family of Children remain to cherish the memory of an earnest and upright life. The funeral occurs at 2 P.M. to-day at the house, conducted by Rev. E.M. Vittum. From abroad to attend the funeral are W.F. Buck of Superior, Nebraska, and Mrs. Kirk, Mrs. Comley and Miss Lon Kirk of Casey, Iowa.
