MRS. CARPENTER DIES MARCH 4

Eloise Katherine Carpenter, 71, of Ottumwa died March 4 at an Ottumwa hospital.

Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First Methodist Church of Ottumwa, with the Rev. Charles Rinkel Jr. officiating.

Pallbearers were Boyd Fuller, Robert A. Sudan II, Keith Fuller, Michael Carpenter, Arthur Fuller, Benjamin Fuller, Harold S. Carpenter and J. David Carpenter III. Honorary bearers were Leighton B. Smith, O.A. Clark, William Trenemann, John Logan, Walter Krambeck and Harold E. Carpenter.

Burial was at Ottumwa Cemetery.

Memorials in Mrs. Carpenter's name were made to her church and Ottumwa Hospice.

She was born Dec. 21, 1911, near Iowa Falls, the daughter of Arthur B. and Mary Starr Fuller. She graduated from Ellsworth College at Iowa Falls and taught in the consolidated schools of Liscomb and State Center.

On June 16, 1938, she was married to J. David Carpenter at Iowa Falls.

She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Ottumwa, P.E.O. Chapter H.R., the Ottumwa Hospital Auxiliary, and a life member of the Wapello County Historical Society. She served as president of the Ottumwa Women's Club, the In His Name Circle of King's Daughters, and the New Century Book Club.

She had also served as Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader.

Survivors include one son, J. David Jr. of Ottumwa; three daughters, Kay Doyle of Ottumwa, Constance Sudan of Winnetka, Ill., and Jane West of Waukegan, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and one brother, Louis Fuller of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
