OBITUARY

EDITH PARK
(Contributed)

Edith Celia Tallmon Park was born January 13, 1883 at Grinnell, Iowa, the youngest child of George W. and Susan Carhart Tallmon. Her mother died when she was seven, so she was raised by her older sisters and father. She died Oct. 1st, 1960, in Marina, Calif.

She attended the Grinnell schools including Grinnell College. Later she finished her training as a kindergarten teacher at Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio.

In 1902 the family moved to Berkeley, Calif. where she took additional work at San Francisco Normal School. In 1905 her sister, Dr. Susan B. Tallmon went to Tintsing Chou, Shanturg China as a medical missionary for the Congregational Church and a few years later Edith joined her there.

In the early 1920's she returned to help care for her aging father.

On June 1, 1927 she married Hubbard Beaton Park, whom she had known when she was a girl in Grinnell. After a few years residence in Morgan Hill, Calif., they moved to Marina and built the home in which they have lived ever since.

Mrs. Park had a special gift with children and many are the happy memories her nieces and nephews and later grand-nieces and nephews have of delightful visits in her home.

For many years she and her husband were very active in church and community affairs in Marina. In fact, it was largely due to their devotion that the Community Church in Marina was started and maintained.
