THOMAS LOUCKS SERVICES HELD

G. Thomas Loucks, 57, of 1723 Spencer St., Grinnell, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Anthony Farrell officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Pallbearers were Edd Bowers, Fred Johnson, Wendell Kinnaird, Don Matthews, Dwight Pease, Nick Ryan and Bill Weeks.

Honorary bearers were Dr. V.H. Carstensen, Dave DeLong, Mike Fitzgerald, Jerry Hagen, John Kintzinger, Jack Mathews, Forrest Mitchell, Milt Maupin, George Norris, Terry Peters, Rick Ramsey, Jim Van Es, Dr. Victor Wilson and Roger Zimmerman.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

He was the son of Carnie D. and Stella Schneider Loucks and was born on Aug. 31, 1930, in Pontiac, Mich. He attended school in Pontiac, graduating from Pontiac High School in 1948. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

On Nov. 10, 1952, he was married to Mary Cretzmyer, in Waverly. He worked in Waverly as assistant manager of the R.M. Harrison's variety Store, and in 1961 moved to Grinnell and opened and managed the Harrison's store here until 1975. He was involved in agricultural sales before opening Loucks True Value in the fall of 1986.

Mr. Loucks was a charter member and past president of the Grinnell Lions Club for which he co-founded the annual State Lions Golf Tournament in Grinnell. He was a member of the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce, was active in Scouting, and coached Little League baseball and A.A.U. basketball.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Carney of Newton and Thomas J. of Grinnell; two daughters, Anne Loucks of Chicago and Jane Fleming of Grinnell; five grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley Wood of Pontiac.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial fund has been established.
