ESTEL C. COTTRELL

Estel C. Cottrell, 80, of Newton, formerly of Grinnell and Malcom, died Monday, Jan. 25, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with burial in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom.

The son of Harrison and Flossie Taylor Cottrell, he was born May 16, 1918, in Pulaski County, Ky. He was raised and educated in Grinnell, then returned to Kentucky as a teen-ager.

He was married to Amanda Mae Duncan June 3, 1939, in Princeton, Mo., and they lived in the Grinnell and Malcom areas prior to moving to Newton in 1982.

Mr. Cottrell was employed at One-Minute Manufacturing in Kellogg for several years and began working for Maytag Corp. in 1952. He retired in 1978.

He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of United Auto Workers Local 997.

Surviving are his wife; one son, Dave of Grinnell; one daughter, Gloria Hair of Willmar, Minn.; two half-brothers, Col. Georege Larsen of Ratcliffe, Ky., and Paul Larsen of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his stepfather, Chris Larsen.
