RAYMOND WALLIS RITES THURSDAY

Raymond L. Wallis, 64, of 118 Cherry St., Colfax, formerly of Newburg, died Saturday morning, Nov. 5, in Denver, Colo., of injuries he received in a one-car accident.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home, with burial at the Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The son of Archie and Eulelia Critchlow Wallis, he was born March 7, 1919, at Emden, Mo. The family moved to Quincy, Ill., and in 1923 moved to a farm northeast of Grinnell. He attended rural schools and later attended Grinnell schools.

On May 20, 1939, he was married to Marjorie M. Humphrey at Lancaster, Mo. Following their marriage, they moved to a farm near Newburg. Mr. Wallis also worked as an independent trucker. In the spring of 1961, the family moved to Colfax where he was employed by the Van Dusseldorp Co. and later the Scotts Trucking Co. and the Fruehof Trucking Co. of Des Moines.

Survivors include his children, Barbara Lea Bates of Ottumwa and Michael R. Wallis and Chester E. Wallis, both of Colfax; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lawrence Wallis of Grinnell and Harold Wallis of Denver; his sister, Mabel Wallen of Marshalltown; and his mother, Eulelia Wallis of Denver.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his father and twin daughters.
