AN OBITUARY OF WILLIAM OZRO SWINDAL

William Ozro Swindal, son of Frank and Emer Swindal, was born in Bear Creek township, Mar. 23, 1886. He was the oldest in a family of three children. At the age of six years, the family moved to the farm one mile south of Malcom, which has been his home ever since.

He attended school at Pleasant No. 1, until he was 13 years of age, when he entered Malcom High School. During revival services at the Methodist Church in December, 1901, under the pastorate of Rev. Mr. Van Schoiack, Will, with the other boys of his Sunday School class, went to the altar of prayer and united with the Malcom Methodist Church June 22, 1902. Through the years he has given loyal service and devotion and at the time of his death was a member of the Official Board as a Steward.

On March 10, 1923 he was united in marriage with Miss Josephine M. Giles of Waukee, Iowa. To this union were born two children, Betty, aged 12 and Ruth, aged 7.

Upon his marriage, his parents and sister moved to the home in Malcom while he assumed the work of the home farm.

Like his father, he was a great lover of nature, especially of farm animals, being known as a good stockman, and enjoyed caring for them and watching their development.

Quiet and unassuming in manner, great was his capacity for friendship, as all with whom he had contact were made friends by his hearty greeting and kindly intercourse. He thoroughly enjoyed meeting and visiting with friends and neighbors in the performance of daily life and many are the friends who will miss these pleasant ministrations.

While there were kindness and appreciation for all with whom he had dealings, his greatest solicitude and care were for the loved ones in the home, and one of the most beautiful companionships was that which existed between Will and his father. Those who knew him best realize the great loss he felt in the passing of his father, July 2, 1933.

While not in the best of health for some time, he was taken sick Saturday, March 28, and after two days of serious illness passed away at the Community Hospital in Grinnell, March 31, 1936, on the 51st anniversary of his parents' marriage, at the age of 50 years.

Surviving are his wife and two little daughters, his mother, Mrs. Emer Swindal, his sister, Mollie, also many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at the Malcom Methodist Church, Thursday at 2 p.m. Special music was given by the Dick-Harder Male Quartet of Fletcher College, University Park, Iowa. Burial was made in Ivy Hill Cemetery.

Those attending the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. Swindal's brother, C.K. Giles, wife and daughter, and her sister's husband, T.J. Rodgers of Waukee, an uncle, Ben Strong of Popejoy, an aunt, Mrs. Josie Strong of Lone Tree and two sisters, Mrs. Edith Meose, also of Lone Tree and Mrs. Tillie Schmitz of West Liberty, and Miss Bessie Swindal of Davenport.
