HOWARD DAVIS RITES HELD SATURDAY

Funeral services for Howard Davis, 82, of Searsboro were conducted by the Rev. Myrtle Lee, of the Searsboro Friends Church, at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 6, in the Harden Funeral Home at New Sharon.

Burial was at the Friends Cemetery, Lynnville. Pallbearers were Craig Stanley, Keith Davis, Jim Guthrie Sr., Glen Brignon, Richard Davis and John McDowell. Flower attendants were Freada Brignon, Mildred McCullough and Marilee Meredith.

Homer McDowell was the soloist accompanied by Mamie Watson.

Mr. Davis died July 3 at the Mahaska County Hospital, Oskaloosa.

The son of John R. and Eliza Jane Lancaster Davis, he was born Dec. 4, 1885 at Lynnville. He was a life-long resident of the area and operated a general store in Searsboro for a number of years.

Preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, in 1957, he is survived by three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ona Davis of Clinton, Mrs. Jesse Davis of Montezuma and Mrs. Faye Stanley of Grinnell. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.

HOWARD DAVIS SERVICES JULY 6

SEARSBORO (Special) -- Howard Davis, a long-time resident of Searsboro, died July 3 at Mahaska Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was 82.

Born in Lynnville, he grew up in Searsboro where he operated a dry goods and grocery store for 49 years, retiring in 1954.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby and several brothers. Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Davis were held Saturday at the Harden Funeral Home in New Sharon. The Rev. Myrtle Lee officiated.

Burial was in Friends Cemetery, Lynnville.

Pallbearers were Craig Stanley, Keith Davis, James Guthrie Sr., Glen Brignon, Richard Davis, and John McDowell. Flower attendants were Freada Brignon, Mildred McCullough, and Marilee Meredith. Homer McDowell was soloist, accompanied by Mamie Watson.

Lunch was served at the Community Friends church in Searsboro following the funeral.
