GERTRUDE HORVAT, 94

Gertrude Horvat, 94, of Cedar Rapids died on Sunday, July 16, 2006, at St. Luke's Hospital following a fall at her recent home, Northbrook Manor Care Center.

Services were held by the Rev. Duane Hix at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday at Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church. Burial was at 2 p.m. on Thursday at the Brooklyn Cemetery, Brooklyn, by the Rev. John Reynolds, Jr.

Survivors include a daughter, Kay (Verlin) Carlson of St. Peter, Minn.; two sons, William (Rose) Billick of Fish Lake Valley, Nev., and Gary (Mary) Billick of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Maxine (Harold) Mohr of Brooklyn; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Herbert Billick and Harry Horvat; three sisters, Elsie, Mildred, Darlene and their husbands; a daughter, Ann McIntosh; and a grandson, Terry Stinglen.

Gertrude was born November 17, 1911 in Poweshiek County the daughter of William Alfred Weaver Bolen and Alice Willetts. She married Herbert in 1930 in Poweshiek County, and Harry in 1961 in Cedar Rapids. Gertrude was a member of Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church and the Royal Neighbors. Early work included taking in washing and ironing, and working at the telephone office. She worked many years at Grant's Department Store in Cedar Rapids. For most of her life she excelled at making items for craft fairs. Gertie loved sending and receiving cards, and playing cards. She delighted in writing stories and reading daily devotions. She held a special fondness for Kitchen Dialogue at her church. Gertie was a real prayer warrior for her family, friends and church prayer chain. She touched many lives.

Memorials may be made to Kenwood Park Presbyterian Church.
