LEWIS HASLEY

Lewis R. Hasley, 79, of Grinnell died Tuesday, April 25, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services were conducted Friday at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma, with the Rev. Ronald Van Heukelom, pastor of the Malcom Presbyterian Church, officiating. Casket bearers were Eric, Jeff, Pete and Tom Hasley; Joe Winchell; Scott Prandy; and Brian and Marty Proctor.

Burial was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

The son of Charles F. and Margaret Hartman Hasley, he was born June 28, 1920, at Searsboro. He was a graduate of Searsboro High School.

He was married to Arlene Bunnell Jan. 11, 1941, at Montezuma. They farmed from 1941 to 1960, then lived in Brooklyn and Malcom before moving to Grinnell.

While living in Brooklyn, Mr. Hasley did carpentry work. While on the farm, he was active in 4-H and had been a 4-H leader. He was also a member of the Searsboro IOOF Lodge. For the past 18 years, he and his wife had wintered in Mission, Texas.

Surviving are his wife; five children, Sharon Winchell of Gardner, Kan., Charlotte Proctor of Whiteland, Ind., John of Malcom, Richard of Olathe, Kan., and Michael of Montezuma; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Edna Dawley and June Williams, both of New Sharon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Charles; one sister, Sylvia; and five brothers, John, Bert, Floyd, Joe and Howard.
