LOUISE ADA BUNNELL

The daughter of James Preston and Maude A. Winchell Ackley, Louise was born May 24, 1905, in Malcom. She was reared in the Malcom area and attended rural school near her home.

She was married to Jesse E. Bunnell Sept. 12, 1923, in Montezuma and the couple farmed in Poweshiek County for several years. They later moved to Brooklyn and she was employed with the Brooklyn Telephone Company before working as a sales clerk at the Brooklyn Rexall Drug for 20 years. She later helped operate a paint store and enjoyed renovating homes in Brooklyn.

She moved to Grinnell in 1987, and most recently had been a resident of Brookhaven Nursing Home in Brooklyn. She was a member of the Grinnell First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Brooklyn United Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Neighborhood Betterment Club and Alone On Sunday Group.

Louise enjoyed socializing with her family and friends and entertaining in her home. She never knew a stranger and her home was always a welcome place. She was an avid card player and enjoyed baking, particularly cookies and pies.

She is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Arlene and Lewis Hasley of Malcom and Irma and Ronald Arnaman of Grinnell; two brothers, Lyle Ackley of Des Moines and Gerald Ackley of Marion; 12 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and 12 great great grandchildren.

Louise died Nov. 4 at Brookhaven, at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; twin daughters, Ella Hasley and Edna Bunnell; a grandson, Charles Hasley; two brothers, Wendell and Earl Ackley; and a sister, Olive Carter.

Funeral services were held Nov. 7 at Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, with the Rev. Michael D. Smith of the First Presbyterian Church, Grinnell, officiating.

Music was provided by organist Rebecca Arnaman Wiley and soloist Milton Severe.

Pallbearers were John Hasley, Michael Hasley, Charles Proctor, Thomas Hasley, Edward Hatcher, Dr. Mark Wiley. Honorary pallbearers were Elsie Hasley, Sharon Winchell, Charlotte Proctor, John Hasley, Michael Hasley, Paul Hasley, Thomas Hasley, Jesse Hasley, Janice Thompson, Beverly Hatcher, Vicky Middendorf and Rebecca Wiley.

Interment was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brooklyn.
