REV. CARL E. KINGSLEY

The Rev. Carl E. Kingsley, 82, of Albert Lea, Minn., died Saturday, Dec. 12, at Thorncrest Manor North in Albert Lea.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell, with the Rev. Cliff Bevins officiating. Organist was James Severe, and vocalists were Patty Evans and Mary Edna Sherman. Pallbearers were Harold Brown, Donovan Evans, Harry Kingsley, Howard Raffety, Maynard Raffety, LaForest Sherman, Noel Taylor and Willard Wells.

Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Grinnell First Baptist Church.

The son of Samuel and Nellie Goudie Kingsley, he was born Oct. 1, 1910, in Bedford. The family moved to Fruita, Colo., where he graduated from high school in 1929. He later received a B.A. degree from Ottawa University, Ottawa, Kan., and graduated from Berkeley Baptist Divinity School, Berkeley, Calif., in 1944.

He was ordained into the Baptist ministry May 1944 in Martinez, Calif. Mr. Kingsley served churches in Kansas, California, Washington, Iowa, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

From 1951 to 1961 he served the First Baptist Church in Grinnell and led the building of the present church in 1952 and the education building in 1960. While living here he became the radio minister for KGRN Radio and served as president of the Grinnell Kiwanis Club and as governor of the Iowa-Nebraska Kiwanis District.

From 1965 to 1975 he was a staff member for the American Baptist Churches at Valley Forge, Pa. He also was vice president of the American Baptist Extension Corporation of the Home Mission Society. From 1975 to 1986 he was an interim minister in Wisconsin and resided at Green Lake. He had been a resident of Thorncrest Manor in Albert Lea since 1988.

He was married to Merna M. Carter Aug. 7, 1940, in Burlington, Kan. They were the parents of two daughters.

Surviving are his daughters, Karla Huck of Taycheedah, Wis., and Ruby Panetti of Brooksville, Fla., three grandchildren; one great-grandson; and three sisters, Mildred Ilk of Denver, Colo., Nellie McPherson of Moab, Utah, and Pearl Payne of Hoquiam Wash. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two sisters, Ruth Kingsley and Mary Emma Kingsley.
