VIOLA HOLCOMB

Viola B. Holcomb, 84, of Grinnell died of complications of diabetes Tuesday, July 28, at St. Francis Manor.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday morning at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Michael Smith, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Grinnell, officiating. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery.

She was the daughter of Lewis and Hannah Tennet Mitchell and was born Sept. 22, 1913, in Grinnell. She was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools.

She was married to Lester Holcomb Jan. 29, 1935, in Montezuma. The couple farmed near Grinnell, Montezuma and Taintor. Following their retirement they lived in Grinnell. Mrs. Holcomb was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry L. of Grinnell and Russell R. of Romance, Ark.; two daughters, Judy P. Macomber of Queen City, Mo., and Margaret A. Meek of Grinnell; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one brother, George W. Mitchell of Grinnell.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one son, William G.; one grandson; three brothers, Gail, Garland and Clifford Mitchell; and two sisters, Cecil E. Vaughn and Dorothy Matherly.
