VERNON FRANK GORSH

The son of Frank and Ethel Mae Lacy Gorsh, Vernon was born Feb. 12, 1914, in Pilot Township, near Williamsburg. He attended rural school in Pilot Township.

He was married to Mary Fredericka Heitmann Dec. 2, 1939. Following their marriage the couple farmed south of Victor. Mary died on May 11, 1977. Following her death he lived and farmed in Hartford township until 1978. On Dec. 9, 1978, he was married to Evelyn Thompson Eggert. Vernon was a devoted husband and father. He took great pride in all that he did, especially his farming.

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Gorsh, a resident at Rose Haven Nursing Home in Marengo; his four children, Cleo Brecht of Norway, Helen Baetsle of Harper, Dorothy Wade of Grinnell and Merlin Gorsh of Pittsburg, Calif.; three step-children, Deanna Wade of Marengo, Dixie Moody of Monticello, Ill., and Crystal Benscoter of Marengo; four brothers, Alfred Gorsh, Cecil Gorsh, and Carroll Gorsh, all of Williamsburg and Charles Gorsh of North English, one sister, Vernita Gordon of Victor; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one step--great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Vernon died Feb. 7, at Williamsburg Nursing Home, at age 80. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; three sisters, Mabel Runyon, Mary Osweiler, and Mildred Moore; and two brothers, Russell and Lloyd, who died in infancy.

Services were held Feb. 10 at Trinity United Church of Christ south of Marengo. Rev. Torger Johnson of Ladora United Methodist New Convenant Parish, along with Rev. Joe M. Lee of Trinity United Church of Christ, performed the services.

Music selections "The Old Rugged Cross," "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "How Great Thou Art," were played by organist Kathryn Heitmann, and sung by vocalist Karen Heitmann.

Pallbearers were Darrell Baetsle, Darren Baetsle, David Baetsle, Ray Brecht, Jason Gorsh, David Heitmann and Aaron Wade.

Interment followed services at Genoa Bluff Cemetery, Iowa County, directed by McAninch-Fremming Funeral Home, Victor.
