Elizabeth J. "Betty" Snider, 86, of Grinnell died Tuesday, June 10, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service for Betty Snider will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bob Cook, chaplain at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, officiating.

The daughter of Homer and Helen Puffett Thayer, she was born Nov. 24, 1916, in Storm Lake. She was a 1935 graduate of Storm Lake High School.

She married Ralph A. Snider on Dec. 30, 1935, in Newton and the couple made their home in Washington, D.C., prior to moving to Grinnell in 1947.

She was employed for 40 years as manager of the school lunch program in the Grinnell-Newburg School District. She retired in 1996.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the Grinnell-Newburg Education Association and a long-time volunteer at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

She is survived by two daughters, Virginia "Ginny" Vitera of Grinnell and Patricia Wooters of Eden Prairie, Minn.; one sister, Bonnie Bremer of Fredericksburg, Texas; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Marquerite Smith and one brother, Hubert Thayer.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grinnell Regional Medcial Center "Building on Excellence" Fund or the Jasper County animal shelter.
