MILDRED EHRET, 87

Mildred Ehret, 87, of Montezuma, died Tuesday, Nov. 8, 2005 at the Brooklyn Estate Care Center in Brooklyn.

Her funeral service was Friday, Nov. 11, at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with the Rev. Joann Hary officiating. Interment was at Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma. Watts Funeral Home of Montezuma was in charge of the arrangements.

Casket bearers were Larry Ehret, Darrin Ehret, Caitlin Ehret, Madison Ehret, Mikyla Ehret and Dustin Ehret.

Honorary casket bearers were William Henkle, James Van Arkel, Sidney Ehret, Dalton Ehret, Dillon Ehret, Gracie Ehret, Robert Traxler and Donald Hicks.

Mildred was born Jan. 24, 1918 in Putnam County, Mo., the daughter of Henry and Ruth (Traxler) Henkle. She graduated from Searsboro High School in 1935 and then the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She taught country school for two years before her marriage to Raymond Ehret on Feb. 18,1939, at Montezuma. To this union, three children were born, Wayne, Marvin and Sandra Jean. They farmed all of their lives and Mildred was a cook at the Montezuma Community School for 17 years. She also worked at the Montezuma Diary King, United Methodist Church for 62 years where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of the Willing Workers neighborhood club. She enjoyed sewing and doing embroidery work. She helped with the family farming operation. Taking care of her family was always her first priority and she loved to iron.

Mildred is survived by her son, Wayne (and Juanita) Ehret of Sac City; two grandsons, Larry (and Gwendy) Ehret and their children, Caitlin, Madison, Sidney and Gracie of Parnell, and Darrin (and Molly) Ehret and their children, Mikyla, Dustin, Dalton and Dillon Montezuma; one sister, Doris (and James) Van Arkel of Malcom; one brother, William (and Leila) Henkle of Montezuma, and other relatives and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, on April 22, 2002; a daughter, Sandra Jean; her son, Marvin; a brother, Roger Henkle, and a sister, Eleanor Hicks.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Montezuma Volunteer Fire and Ambulance Department.
