CHARLES H. COATS "A GOOD NEIGHBOR" FUNERAL APRIL 14

Charles Harrison Coats was born to David and Sarah Noaker Coats in Hartford township, Iowa county, on May 9, 1888 and passed away in his sleep at his home near Brooklyn on April 12, at the age of 71 years 11 months 3 days.

He grew up on the Coats farm southeast of Victor, receiving his education in a nearby rural school. While a boy he joined the Ohio Methodist church and remained a faithful Christian throughout his life, always doing his part in the community and church.

His willingness to lend a helping hand will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

On Feb. 22, 1911, he was united in marriage to Clara Tobin of Colfax at Newton. They started their married life together on a farm he had purchased in Lincoln township, Poweshiek county. In 1941 they moved to their present home southeast of Brooklyn.

To this union were born three children: Sarah Mabel of Deep River, Eva Miriam (Mrs. Lyle Mathews) of Webster City and Vernon Roy of Deep River.

Besides his wife and children, he is survived by two grandchildren, Leland Eugene and Kathleen Ann Mathews; a sister, Mrs. Roy Park of Victor and two brothers, James Coats of Long Beach and Blaine Coats of Laporte, Colo.

Funeral services were held from the McAninch chapel in Victor Thursday, April 14 at two o'clock, with the Rev. N.F. Grote, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Arthur Lang sang two solos, "Rock of Ages" and "Beyond the Sunset," with Mrs. George Keller organist.

Those who cared for the flowers were Mr. and Mrs. Charles McSherry and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roth.

Pallbearers were Noel Coats, Everett Mohr, Wendell Thomas, Claude Conklin, Richard Park and Irvin Hoffmaster. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor.
