GENE EDWARD FREEBORN, 69

Gene Edward Freeborn, 69, of Montezuma, died Thursday April 15, 2004, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

His funeral service was held Monday, April 19, at Watts Funeral Home in Montezuma with Wes Fahlenkamp of Light of Life Ministries in Montezuma officiating.

Casket bearers were Larry Bryan, Stan Freeborn, Steve Freeborn, Lee Sharer, Dan Malloy and Mike Fahlenkamp.

Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma.

Gene was born Jan. 14, 1935 at Montezuma, the son of Everett and Zephyr (Hudson) Freeborn. He attended Montezuma High School. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He lived at home with his parents and helped care for the yard. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed the Cubs and Cardinals.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Mauritta Sharer; and two brothers, Cletus and Raymond.

Gene is survived by five sisters, Helen Harrington of Montezuma; Mary Louise Kopfer of Denver; Betty Malloy of Montezuma; Gladys Kilmer of Kirksville, Mo.; and Joan Lucero of Englewood, Colo.; two brothers, Delmar of Grinnell and Everett (Junior) of Montezuma; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be designated to Iowa Veterans Home or Hospice.
