HOWARD LAYPORT RITES HELD MONDAY

The funeral of Howard E. Layport, 87, was held Monday afternoon, April 18, at the Steffy Funeral Home with the Rev. Howard Hayes officiating. Organ music was provided by Mrs. Keith Steffy.

Interment was in Golden Rod Cemetery, Deep River, with Art Merck, Keith Tish, Floyd Tish, Warren Fisch, Eugene Merck and Elmer Burgraff serving as pallbearers.

Howard E., son of L.W. and Anna Ladely Layport, was born in Iowa County, Iowa, on August 19, 1879, and died Friday, April 15.

In his youth he attended Buckeye rural school in Iowa County. He moved with his parents to Cody and later to Valentine, Nebr., where he completed his education.

For many years he served as deputy sheriff while his father was sheriff.

In about 1941 he returned to Iowa. For the past 16 years has made his home with his cousins, Julia and Bessie Slack.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Verne E. and Charles F.

He is survived by one son, Levi N.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Idelle Gregory; and several cousins.
