HELEN CLELAND KACHIGIAN, 85

Helen M. Cleland Kachigian, 85, of Garland, Texas, died on Friday, February 28, 1997 at Mesquite, Texas. Graveside services were held on March 4 at the Pleasant Township Cemetery near Ewart with the Rev. Daniel I. Ogata officiating.

Helen M. Cleland Kahigian was born on December 24, 1911, at Ewart to William Garfield and Emma Jane Agnew Cleland. She attended Grinnell schools and graduated from Grinnell College. Following her education, she lived in New York City where she worked as a purchasing supervisor for Macy's Department Store. During World War II, she volunteered at Stage Door Canteen in New York City. On Septeber 24, 1946, she was married to Peter Kachigian in New York City. Following her retirement, the couple moved to Garland, Texas in 1979. She was a member of the Garland Republican Women's Club, the Garland Women's Federation and she was an alumni of the Camp Fire Girls Council.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lona Cleland; and two brothers, Donald and Raymond Cleland.

Helen is survived by her husband, Peter Kachigian of Garland.

Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell was in charge of the arrangements.
