ANNA ASHING RITES TODAY

Anna Lee Ashing, 75, of Grinnell, the widow of Ira O. Ashing, died early Saturday, April 27, at Grinnell General Hospital.

The daughter of George W. and Lizzie Edmundson Guynn, she was born Dec. 28, 1898, in Licking, Mo. In 1900, she moved with her family to Coweta, Okla., where she attended the Indian Territory School. In 1909, her family moved back to Licking, later moving to Huggins, Mo., where she finished school. At the age of 14 years, she was baptized in the Minssunal Church.

She was married to Emmett Davidson on Oct. 15, 1913. The couple had three children, Marvin Davidson of Salida, Colo.; Arviel Davidson, who died Oct. 17, 1918, at the age of 4; and Marcella Davidson, who died at the age of two days July 9, 1918. Mr. Davidson died Sept. 12, 1918.

On Sept. 19, 1920, she was married to Clarence Leighty. The couple had four children, Mrs. Earl (Marie) Green of Las Vegas, Nev.; Mrs. Harry (Geneva) See of Grinnell; Everett Leighty of Kansas City, Kan.; and Mrs. Bruce (Irene) Collum of Grinnell. Mr. Leighty died April 16, 1929.

On Feb. 6, 1932, she was married to George Clingan. The couple had one daughter, Mrs. Albert (Georgia) Davis of Grinnell. Mr. Clingan died Apr. 28, 1937.

On June 1, 1939, she was married to Ira Oliver Ashing. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Ashing made their home in Mountain Grove, Mo. In 1941, they moved to Grinnell. Mr. Ashing died June 24, 1970, and Mrs. Ashing had continued to maker her home in Grinnell.

Mrs. Ashing had worked for Grinnell College, the Grinnell Shoe Factory, the Lone Elm Nursing Home, and the Happy Hours Nursing Home.

Survivors include her six children; three step-children, Fred L. Ashing of Ladora, Lester E. Ashing of Gilman and Mrs. Iris R. Bagley of Los Gatos, Calif.; 24 grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marion F. Guynn of Mountain Grove, Mo., and Jess Guynn of Huggins, Mo.; and one sister, Mrs. Wayne (Lorean) Frey of Mountain Grove. She was preceded in death by her parents, her four husbands, two children, and two sisters, Fern Guynn who died in 1908 and Mable Guynn who died in 1918.

Funeral services for Mrs. Ashing were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Apr. 29, at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the Grinnell First Baptist Church, officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Willard Heffner, organist, and Mrs. Wayne Dayton, vocalist. Pallbearers were Bill Ashing, Larry Collum, Charles Cooper, Virgil Davidson, Lee Davis, and Gregory Leighty.

Burial was in Lower Blue Point Cemetery southeast of Grinnell.
