W.H. WHEELOCK DIES

Grinnell lost a good citizen Wednesday afternoon when William H. Wheelock passed away at his home at 4:30 o'clock, after an illness covering two months.

Will Wheelock was born at Clinton, Iowa, Feb. 23, 1860, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. H.T. Wheelock. When the father enlisted in the civil war, the mother and the oldest son Frank came to Grinnell and Chester to keep house and care for Mrs. Jason Sherman, making the trip in a covered wagon, while the younger son Will, was left at Clinton, in care of his grandparents.

At the close of the war and after his discharge, Mr. Wheelock came to Chester and here the Wheelock home was located until they moved to Grinnell later in life. In Chester, Will grew and attended school, later attending college for several years.

In the early eighties he went to Armour, S.D., where he entered a farm and where he lived several years. July 18, 1888, he was united in marriage at Armour to Miss Charlotte Haight who survives him. After several years here Mr. and Mrs. Wheelock went to Mrs. Wheelock's home place near Greenwich, Conn., returning to the west in 1895. While in the east Mr. Wheelock was in the railway service for a part of the time. In 1902 Mr. and Mrs. Wheelock went to Holly, Colo. where he bought a half section and here they lived until 1914, since which time their home has been in Grinnell.

During the past year Mr. Wheelock has been in the office of the Farmers' Elevator Co., leaving his duties there about the middle of July on account of poor health.

In the death of Mr. Wheelock, Grinnell loses a good citizen and a manly man; the Congregational church an honored and faithful deacon and an earnest Christian; and his family a true and loved member.

Mr. Wheelock was a Mason, active and faithful.

He leaves to mourn his death his wife, his aged mother, his brother, Frank of Estherville, his sister Mary of Des Moines and a large circle of near relatives.

The funeral will be held Saturday at three o'clock at the house.
