GEORGE BOARD SERVICES HELD

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, Dec. 7) at the Smith Funeral Home for George Board, 78, who died Friday evening, Dec. 4, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Grinnell where he had lived the past three years.

The Rev. J. Eugene Young, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiated at the services. Organist was Mrs. Kathleen Heffner.

Pallbearers were Dale Copeland, Sheldon Copeland, Don Hasselbrink, Gary Maring, Bob Maring and Carl Tokle.

Burial was made in Pleasant Township Cemetery at Ewart with American Legion graveside rites led by Shirley Sisco and W.K. Richardson.

The son of A. Sam and Elizabeth Grattan Board, Mr. Board was born near Ewart on Nov. 24, 1892.

During World War I, Mr. Board served as a private with Company L of the 330th Infantry in France. He farmed south of Grinnell for a number of years before failing health forced his retirement.

Mr. Board was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, Focht-Tennant Post No. 53 of the American Legion, and a member of Hopeful Barracks No. 1368 Veterans of World War I.

Survivors include two brothers and two sisters -- John Board, Cecil Board and Mrs. Edward (Myrtle) Haag, all of Geneva, N.Y., and Mrs. Kenneth (Sadie) Beardslee of Geneva, N.Y.
