AHRENS RITES HELD SUNDAY

Long-Time Resident Ill Many Years

Funeral services for Mrs. Loella Ahrens, 78, were held Sunday afternoon at two o'clock at her home in Brooklyn in charge of Jelto Rewerts of Creston. Three songs were sung by a quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Swanson of Malcom, Ernest Bowman of Grinnell and Mrs. Jack Patten. Burial was in I.O.O.F. cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Ed Ahrens, Charles Ahrens, Frank Smith, Ray Kann, Clyde Graham and C.J. Sutphin.

Mrs. Ahrens died Thursday night at her home in Brooklyn following a long illness. She had been bedfast for two years and had been cared for by her daughter, Mrs. Mabel Heineman.

Loella M. Billick Ahrens, daughter of George and Henrietta Billick, was born on a farm north of Brooklyn, Poweshiek county, Iowa, Jan. 16, 1874.

She came to Brooklyn with her parents at the age of ten. She later made her home with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hudson, of Sheridan. She married Albert Ahrens in January, 1892. The family farmed in various places until 1917 when they moved to Brooklyn. Seven children were born to the couple.

She is survived by one daughter and four sons, Mrs. Mabel Heineman of Los Angeles, Calif.; Ben and Albert Ahrens of Brooklyn, Truman of British Columbia and Charles of Kansas City, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Sarah McAninch of Brooklyn; one brother, George Billick, of Rancho Sante Fe, Calif.; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two children, two sisters, one brother and one great granddaughter.
