LAST SERVICES ARE HELD SATURDAY FOR LESTER AHRENS

Funeral services conducted by Rev. C.D. Loose were held Saturday afternoon from the Methodist church for Lester Fred Ahrens. Pall bearers were Clarence Appleby, Lester Baustian, Charles Manly, Paren Pederson, Raymond Schilders and Irvin Schultz.

Music was provided by Mrs. Margery Bouma with Mrs. Mack Henderson as accompanist.

Burial was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Lester Fred Ahrens, son of Henry H. and Ida Schultz Ahrens, was born May 13, 1901, in Malcom township, and passed away at St. Francis hospital after a brief illness May 10, 1944, having almost reached the age of 43 years.

Lester spent his entire life in Poweshiek county. He attended the schools in Malcom township and graduated from Grinnell high school with the class of 1919.

On May 6, 1925, he was united in marriage to Miss Lola Elizabeth Pilgrim. To this union two sons were born, Robert Lester, and Richard Glenn, both at home.

Lester was baptized in infancy in the Lutheran church and joined in the fellowship of the First Methodist church of Grinnell in March 1929, under the pastorate of Dr. George Blagg. Of this church he remained a faithful member and attendant until his death.

Lester was active in community life and his death is a distinct loss, not only to his sorrowing family, but to all the community. He shared in community responsibilities; was a friend and helper to so many in times of need; a splendid neighbor, and a loyal companion and father. The buoyancy and cleanliness of his life, his exemplary character and his Christian faith will continue to be an inspiration to those who knew him best through the years.

Besides his immediate family consisting of Mrs. Lola Ahrens and the two sons, Robert and Richard, there are left to sorrow in his passing his father, Henry E. Ahrens, and his sister, Nellie Ahrens, other relatives and a host of friends.

Relatives and friends from a distance attending the funeral services were Mrs. Frank Ahrens of Conroy, Herman Ahrens, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Kuch, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Autzen, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Hudepohl and John Hudepohl, Sr., all of Williamsburg, Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Pilgrim of Decorah, Mrs. Walter Pilgrim and Mrs. Arthur Ruen of Postville, Ralph Atkinson of Chicago, C.R. Wagner of Peoria, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Van Horn of Altoona, Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Appleby of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. D.S. Farmer of New Sharon, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Dunlap, Bobbie and Marie Annette, Mrs. Mervin Alrey and Mrs. Charles Wilke, all of Marshalltown.
