OBITUARY

Mrs. Clara Walters Cartwright was born in Berlin, Germany, August 3, 1847 and died at her home in Marshalltown last Thursday evening, April 5.

When very young she was brought by her parents to this country and made her home with them in Chicago until 1868 when she was married to T.S. Cartrwright. They moved to this city in the early 80's and continued to make ther home here for thirteen years. About four years ago they moved to Hampton and about a year and a half ago to Marshalltown where they have since resided.

To them were born four children, two of whom died in infancy and one, Miss *Clara Cartwright, died here in 1890. Her husband and one son, T.C. Cartwright of Marshalltown, survive her.

For many years Mrs. Cartwright has been in feeble health and during the past few weeks her condition has been critical. Her death was due to anemia.

During her residence here Mrs. Cartwright made many warm friends among the women of the town and though never being able to take a very active part in public affairs she was always interested in them. In spite of ill health she performed her family duties as much as her strength would permit and leaves a loving husband and son and a wide circle of friends to mourn her loss. She was a member of the Congregational denomination at the time of her death.

Brief funeral services were held in Marshalltown Saturday, after which the body was brought here and services were conducted in the Congregational church by the Rev. L.B. Hix of the Congregational church of Marshalltown, assisted by the Rev. E.M. Vittum and Prof. L.F. Parker. Music was furnished by a quartette consisting of Miss Alice Fisher, Mrs. A.B. Mack, E.J. Jaqua and J.C. Walker. The pall bearers were H.I. Davis, A.B.Cady, John Goodfellow, J.A. Flook, A. McIntosh and H.P. Proctor.
