LOLA AHRENS STEWART

Lola Ahrens Stewart, 95, of Marshfield, Mo., formerly of Grinnell, died Sunday, Sept 5, at Webco Manor in Marshfield.

A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Hazelwood Cemetery. Those attending the service are being asked to meet at the Smith Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m.

She was born March 5, 1904, near Grinnell to Norman Orey and Carrie Dunlap Pilgrim.

She was married to Lester F. Ahrens in Marshalltown. They farmed east of Grinnell. Mr. Ahrens died in 1944, and she moved off the farm and into Grinnell.

She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and the University of Iowa, and she graduated from Drake University in 1952. She taught at Grant No. 5 rural school and in the Grinnell-Newburg School District. She was an educator for over 25 years.

On Aug. 3, 1957, she was married to Floyd Stewart in Grinnell. He died in 1976.

Mrs. Stewart was a member of the United Methodist Church and a charter member of the United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Wesleyan Service Guild, the National Retired Teachers Assosciation, the American Association of Retired Persons and the Iowa Retired Teachers Association, which gave her a life membership in 1967. She also belonged to the Searchlight Club and was a member of the Grinnell Historical Museum Auxiliary. She also had served on the Grinnell Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are one son, Richard "Mike" Ahrens of Marshfield; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; one son, Robert Ahrens; one grandson; and one brother, Glenn Pilgrim.
