OBITUARY.

John Henry Pilgrim was born at West Jersey, Illinois, the 16th day of May, 1858 and died at his home at Oskaloosa, July 31, 1904. He came with his parents to Grinnell, Iowa, March 7th, 1878. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Wood the 22nd of May 1884. To this marriage one son was born, Clyde, now eighteen years old. Mr. Pilgrim settled down to farming and stock raising one and one-half miles south of Grinnell. He was a hard working and industrious man, a kind and good neighbor, loved and respected by all who knew him.

Being afflicted with paralysis in his face, he gave up farming four years ago and commenced to take treatment. Two years ago last spring he moved to Oskaloosa. For a long time he struggled hard to ward off the fatal disease but five weeks before his death he had to give up and was confined to his bed. He retained his reason to the last and even tried to write a letter to his mother and sister on Friday the 29th of July. The day before his death he recognized and talked with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Croft Pilgrim, who went to his bedside, about the friends in Grinnell. He fell asleep at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday the 31st of July, 1904. He leaves a wife and son to mourn his loss.

We feel grateful to the friends and neighbors for their love and respect and assistance in our sad bereavement.
