VERA M. SCHWIEBERT

Funeral services were held Saturday morning, Aug. 14, at Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn for Mrs. Vera M. Schwiebert, 92, of Toledo, a former resident of Brooklyn. She died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at Grandview Acres, Toledo.

The Rev. William Daylong officiated, and the organist was Angie Hawkins. The soloist, Nathan Wear, was accompanied by Seth Wear, and their selection was "How Great Thou Art." The congregational hymn was "Precious Lord, Take My Hand."

Casket bearers were Brad Schwiebert, Jeff Schwiebert, Mike Sutten, Tim Sutten, Marty Sutten and Larry Wear. Interment was in the Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, and Nevenhoven Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements.

Vera Marie Anger Schwiebert, daughter of Dr. A.E. Anger and Nettie Smith Anger, was born Dec. 5, 1906, at Brooklyn. She graduated from the Brooklyn High School in 1923. She attended Syracuse University in New York, University of Iowa, State Teachers College (today UNI), and received her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Drake University.

She worked for the Brooklyn Chronicle as a reporter for two years and then acting editor for two years.

She was married to Clarence (Shorty) H. Schwiebert in Buffalo, N.Y., on July 23, 1933. She was a school teacher for 20 years in the HLV School District, Victor. She moved to Toledo in 1989.

Mrs. Schwiebert was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Brooklyn, Eastern Star, Columbian Club, Delta Kappa Gamma, Chi Omega Sorority and Chapter AK PEO Sisterhood. She was an avid reader and traveler, having gone around the world twice.

She was preceded in death by her husband who died June 14, 1978, and a sister, Dorothy Ferguson, and a brother, Albert Anger, who both lived in Buffalo, N.Y.

Surviving are a daughter, Pat Sutten, and her husband, Kenny, of Marshalltown; three sons and their wives, John and Ruth Schwiebert of Cedar Rapids, David and Mary Ann Schwiebert of Kansas City, Mo., and James and Barbara Schwiebert of Brooklyn; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
